First Aid at Work + Forestry

WHO IS THIS FOR?

The course, delivered by MediArb Ltd, is designed for supervisors and managers specifically.

This course will teach you the theory and practical skills to perform first aid until the medical professionals take over. This course provides you with the required skills, knowledge and understanding from First Aid at Work as well as covering additional objectives that occur in Forestry, Agriculture and Arboriculture (such as crush injuries and suspension trauma).

This course has been developed to comply with the Forestry Commission and Natural Resources Wales requirement for +F operators on site, and in consultation with Forestry Industry Safety Accord (FISA).

Venue:

This is normally started at our site locally to Builth Wells, in Powys.
If you have enough people for a full course we are able to run this course on your site (subject to a pre-course visit).

Pre-requisites:

None | Previous FAW+F certificate that is out of date

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

  • Understand the role of the first-aider, including reference to – the importance of preventing cross infection / the need for recording incidents and actions / use of available equipment
  • Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure)
  • Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock
  • Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters).
  • Administer first aid to a casualty with – injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal injuries / chest injuries / burns and scalds / eye injuries / sudden poisoning / anaphylactic shock
  • Recognise the presence of major illness (including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes) and provide appropriate first aid.
