Who is this for?

Tree climbing is an essential part of an Arborist’s work, however, working at height can be dangerous. This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge to effectively and safely climb trees in preparation for arb works or as part of tree or canopy inspection works.

Falls from height are one of the biggest causes of deaths and major injuries in the workplace; this course includes, as standard, effective aerial rescue techniques.

Learners must be physically fit and not suffering from vertigo or similar conditions or on medication that could affect their safety.

5 days Training with an additional 1 day City & Guilds NPTC Assessment

Venue:

This is normally completed at our site locally to Builth Wells or Llandrindod Wells.
If you have enough people for a full course, we are able to run this course on your site (subject to a pre-course visit).

City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate of Competence in Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

Understands legislation relevant to tree climbing. (Safety legislation, tree + wildlife protection)
Identifies basic equipment required for tree climbing, including conformity and inspection requirements with reference to the LOLER regulations.
Understands the principles of work positioning and work positioning systems. (climber attached to tree at all times, maximum allowable slack and fall)
Identifies a range of equipment to facilitate initial access into the tree crown, Strengths and weaknesses. (e.g. ladder, throwline, rods)
Tie a range of knots relevant to tree climbing operations. (attachment knots, friction hitches, stopper knots)
Inspects tree to establish whether it is safe to climb.
Establish anchor points and perform change overs safely.
Ascend the tree to an appropriate final anchor point using techniques conforming to work positioning principles.
Carry out branch walks to the outer portions of the tree crown.
Use handsaw to remove lightweight branches, including correct pruning techniques.
Carry out aerial rescues of casualties using a variety of techniques and from different situations.
Carry out pole rescue
